Every year the American Diabetes Association has a fundraiser to raise money to find a permanent cure for Diabetes. It is called “STEP OUT WALK TO STOP DIABETES”. It is a 5K Walk and and it is held each year in Fort Lauderdale.
Why do we Walk?
Diabetes is a Pandemic
Every 23 seconds someone hears the three words that will change their life as they know it: “you have diabetes.” We walk to raise critical funds and show support for all people living with diabetes. The Step Out Walk directly supports research, education and advocacy for people living with type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes.
This year, the walk will be held on October 21, 2017 @ Huizenga Park in Fort Lauderdale (see address and map below). Its usually held every year in Fort Lauderdale to raise money and awareness for Diabetes. I remember that I walked one year when it was still held at the BB&T Center in Sunrise. 5K or 3.10 miles is something that I can do in under 1 hour if I walk quite fast. I usually walk between 2.5 and 3 miles on the treadmill in the gym.
This year, I have a personal reason to walk, participate and try to raise funds for Diabetes. I have a personal connection and want to contribute as well. Since the surgery and amputation of my two toes I want to make sure that others don’t have to suffer because of this horrible disease, I definitely want to make sure that we can raise awareness to what this disease causes.
I am asking you to support me in Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes® because this cause means so much to me. I joined Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes because it is one of the best ways to make a difference in people’s lives, including our loved ones, families, friends and co-workers
